We can’t deny that swollen and puffed up eyes are never a favoured look.
We all want to have alert bright eyes instead of swollen ones.
Now there are many reasons for these under eye bags, most of these cause fluid retention, which makes the area under the eyes swell up.
In order to treat puffy eyes you need to first find out the actual cause.
Here are some of the reasons you could be suffering from puffy eyes.
1. Lack of sleep.
A ‘not so good’ night’s sleep can sometimes lead to swelling around the eyes, especially if you have been stressed out and not able to get a sound sleep.
Too much stress changes the balance of salt in the body. And because of that the body starts retaining fluids, which makes the eyes swell.
2. Too much salt.
The sodium in salt makes the body holds onto the fluids longer. Therefore, excess of salt intake in food can lead to water retention in the body and can sometimes lead to puffy eyes
3. Thyroid.
Hyperthyroidism can sometimes cause thickening of the skin around the eyes. And sometimes it can be the cause behind the water retention in the body.
4. Hangover
Too much of alcohol can dehydrate the body and make it swell. Therefore excess intake of alcohol can lead to fluid retention and result in swelling around the eyes.
5. PMS
Right before the periods, the whole body starts to bloat and there is water retention around the eyes as well.
This results in swollen eyes around the time of the periods
6. Seasonal allergies.
The skin around the eye area is super sensitive. And if you are prone to allergies, especially during the change of season, the body is easily attacked by the allergies. And this sometimes results in swelling around the eyes.
Though it’s not very pleasant to have swollen eyes, but if the cause is known, it can be generally treated with simple lifestyle changes and precautions.
